The World Hunger Fund Committee met on March 23, 2001, to consider a number
of grant proposals. The committee’s recommendations were forwarded to the
Mission Support Fund Committee where they were approved. Funding (in U.S.
dollars) has been provided to the requesting agencies as follows:
Harvest House Food Pantry, St. Joseph, MO. Amount, $6,100.
Bread For the World and Bread For the World Institute. To support the
advocacy portion of the World Hunger Fund mission. Amount, $35,000.
Africa Field Program. To support ongoing participatory human development
programs in Kenya, Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo and Malawi. Amount,
$10,000.
Haiti School Lunch Program. To provide a hot meal to school children so
they will have strength to study their lessons. Amount, $30,000.
OI Administrative Grant. To provide screening and administration of the
many projects being funded by Outreach. Amount, $31,000.
Strengthening Civil Society , Nepal. To equip village organizations to better
effect a sustainable approach to food production and enhance the economic
capacity of rural poor. Amount, $16,581.
Programa de Reconstruccion Rural, La Buena Fe, Honduras. To introduce
sustainable agriculture techniques and increase food security in PRR program
area. Amount, $16,778.
Programa de Esperanza y Recuperacion Communitario, Valle Dorado, El Salvador.
Amount, $3356.
Rural Women Development, Pakistan. Enhance productive capacity of women as
partners in farming so families can remain on farms and not be forced to migrate
to urban areas. Amount, $2823.
Dokri Agrcultural Development, Pakistan. Establish micro-credit program to
establish agricultural programs for small farms. Amount, $1900.
Northwest Frontier Province, Pakistan. To provide basic skill training for
240 rural women to increase household income and improve food security. Amount,
$1304.
Bonded Labor Awareness Campaign, Pakistan. To advocate for freeing bonded
agricultural workers and provide for more favorable conditions for rural poor
farmers. Amount, $1475.
Tribal indigenous communities, Mindanao, Philippines. Focus on relocation and
establishment of food security in farming and fishing villages affected by
former guerilla warfare. Amount, $15,000.
World Accord Core Funding. Strengthen long-term planning capacity and assist
in fund-raising and operations. Amount, $25,000.
It should be noted that all the World Accord grants are in US dollars, but
will be matched at a ratio of at least 3:1 by Canadian Government funds.
