Grant to Church World Service for Afghanistan Refugees: The World
Hunger Committee agreed to send an additional $20,000 to Church World Service
for Afghanistan refugees and let that represent the final portion of the total
amount raised during the special appeal by World Hunger Ministries in February
and March of this year. The total amount granted for Afghanistan relief is
$75,000.
Haiti Drought Relief Grant: This grant is to provide for the
purchase of food as well as seed to replant crops that were lost because of
drought conditions in the central plateau of Haiti. $15,000 was approved.
Dental Sealant Project- Honduras: $2,500 was approved for this
project, with the promise of an additional $2,500, if $2,500 could be raised
from new outside sources.
Community Garden Project (Emmanuel Community of Christ, Decatur,
Alabama): The central purpose of the community garden is to provide
fresh produce to underprivileged individuals and families in the neighborhood
around the church. Recipients are encouraged to donate time to work in the
garden. $650 was approved.

Grants Received
Feinstein Grant: The committee took note of the fact that more
than $175,000 was raised by 22 Community of Christ congregations working with
various community organizations during the Feinstein
appeal. As a result, Mr. Feinstein indicated he is granting a $1,000 bonus
to World Hunger Ministries for hunger projects in the United States.
The next meeting of the World Hunger Committee is October 18, 2002. The
deadline for the submission of grant request applications is September 1, 2002.
