Canada and U.S.: Get Part of $1 Million to End Hunger
For the 5th year, Community of Christ congregations are invited to
participate in the Feinstein $1 Million Challenge to end hunger. For the first
time, the Feinstein Foundation is opening this event to Canada as well as the
United States.
Members and friends have put forth extra effort in the effort to end hunger
during March and April of the past four years in response to the Feinstein $1
Million Challenge. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised and
awareness of hunger issues has increased.
For nine years, the Feinstein Foundation has divided $1 million annually
among non-profit organizations that work to feed the hungry. Individuals and
congregations (on their own or in cooperation with local food pantries) raise
funds and collect canned goods to meet local needs. By filing a report with
the Feinstein Foundation, they receive a portion of the $1 million grant for
their organization.
Because of Community of Christ’s coordinated effort, a bonus can be earned
for the World Hunger Fund. If $350,000 is raised, the bonus will be $500; for
$400,000 raised, $1,000; for $500,000 or more, $1,200. As in past years, Joyce
Carter, has volunteered to coordinate this ministry
and help with reports for Community of Christ congregations.
