Come Feast with Christ
World Hunger Emphasis Day
| Are you hungry right now?
Have you ever had heavy hunger pains like fasting
before a medical procedure?
Have you ever personally known someone who was truly, painfully
hungry on a regular basis?
Have you ever felt deeply the desire to relieve
someone’s hunger pain?
|
There may be people in Community of Christ congregations somewhere in the
world, maybe even in your own congregation, who will join with millions
outside our fellowship in feeling hunger pains today. Only God knows just how
many will be hungry this day in the global village we share. We weep for the
conditions that produce such suffering.
But there is hope. We can count how many seeds there are in an
apple, but God alone knows how many apples there are in an apple seed. God has
a plan for those who are hungry. It is called sharing: “for the earth
is full, and there is enough and to spare” (Doctrine and Covenants 101:2f).
In the spirit of the Communion meal we partake of today, it is suggested
that we focus on hunger pains: ours (if we missed breakfast) and those being
felt around the world right now as we sit here. As we do so, let everyone
place at least the cost of a good breakfast in the offering envelope
and mark it for the World Hunger Fund. Then eat a noon meal (we are especially
blessed if it’s potluck at the church) and go home satisfied, knowing that
God’s plan is working today.
