SPECIAL REPRESENTATIVE OF THE SECRETARY-
GENERAL FOR CHILDREN AND ARMED CONFLICT http://www.un.org/special-rep/children-armed-conflict/
Volunteers -- There is a great deal that you can do - at local, national
and international level - to join the global movement that rejects the abuse
of children in war. You could pledge your support for a non-governmental organization
(NGO) from your own country working in a specific area, such as
rehabilitation or refugee children. Why not ask your local Member of
Parliament or representative when your country is planning to ratify the
Optional Protocol raising the age of recruitment ? Or you could simply
share what you've learned about children caught up in war with other
young people across your country. In the US, you could lobby your
representative in the House or Senate to find out how to persuade Congress to
ratify the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Whatever you decide to do,
decide to get involved.
