Church Seal Style Guide

Overview
This guide is provided to help you effectively use the church seal. Specifications relate to design, style, and printing of the church seal for Community of Christ publications and items. Please follow this guide when using the church seal. It is our hope that as we consistently use the seal throughout the church, we will establish a Community of Christ identity that others will recognize.

The Official Church Seal
In the past our church has been represented by a minimum of eight seals based on Isaiah 11:6. In the process of changing the church’s name to Community of Christ, it was made clear that people wanted to retain the seal and its unique elements - the lion, lamb, and child. While the official church seal is similar to the commonly used seal created in 1963, it presents a more graphic image that complements the church’s nameplate.

The seal emphasizes the child who leads the efforts to create a peaceable kingdom. Each of the figures has the same amount of lightness, with the shadow of the lion providing the background that makes the child’s figure more prominent. The artist experimented with light and darkness in the three figures. When the lion’s figure had a greater ratio of white, the child was less noticeable. One element of the lion’s mane directs the viewer’s eye to the child, as does the lamb’s nose, gently touching the child’s hand.

The artist based the child’s body on that of a two-and-a-half year old, with the head proportionally larger than an older child. The child’s facial features represent many children, male and female, multiracial, and different ages. The official church seal is intended to be true to the vision of a peaceable kingdom, which we call Zion.

Church Seal Guidelines

The Community of Christ seal, which can be obtained from your regional, stake, mission center office or World Headquarters, must be used in its original rendering. Altering the appearance of our church seal in any way damages the consistency and strength of the identity program as a whole. Simplicity is the key to maintaining an elegant appearance.
