Church Seal Style Guide
Overview
This guide is provided to help you effectively use the church seal.
Specifications relate to design, style, and printing of the church seal for
Community of Christ publications and items. Please follow this guide when
using the church seal. It is our hope that as we consistently use the seal
throughout the church, we will establish a Community of Christ identity that
others will recognize.
The Official Church Seal
In the past our church has been represented by a minimum of eight seals
based on Isaiah 11:6. In the process of changing the church’s name to
Community of Christ, it was made clear that people wanted to retain the seal
and its unique elements - the lion, lamb, and child. While the official church
seal is similar to the commonly used seal created in 1963, it presents a more
graphic image that complements the church’s nameplate.
The seal emphasizes the child who leads the efforts to create a peaceable
kingdom. Each of the figures has the same amount of lightness, with the shadow
of the lion providing the background that makes the child’s figure more
prominent. The artist experimented with light and darkness in the three
figures. When the lion’s figure had a greater ratio of white, the child was
less noticeable. One element of the lion’s mane directs the viewer’s eye
to the child, as does the lamb’s nose, gently touching the child’s hand.
The artist based the child’s body on that of a two-and-a-half year old,
with the head proportionally larger than an older child. The child’s facial
features represent many children, male and female, multiracial, and different
ages. The official church seal is intended to be true to the vision of a
peaceable kingdom, which we call Zion.
Church Seal Guidelines
The Community of Christ seal, which can be obtained from your regional,
stake, mission center office or World Headquarters, must be used in its
original rendering. Altering the appearance of our church seal in any way
damages the consistency and strength of the identity program as a whole. Simplicity
is the key to maintaining an elegant appearance.
- The seal is available in color and black and white. These two colors
include Pantone 548 blue and Pantone 1265 bronze, and other shades of
these Pantones. Professional printers and product vendors will need to
know these Pantone (PMS) numbers to accurately print the color seals.
- The color seal should always be rendered in the specified Pantone
colors. If color printing is not available, use the black and white
version of the seal.
- Be mindful of the space and location where the church seal will be
displayed or printed. Use the appropriate seal size for reproduction found
on the official CD-ROM.
- The church seal always stands on its own and should not be combined with
any other logos (the logo of a particular event or a specific
congregation). This helps to maintain the strength of the Community of
Christ identity program.
- The church seal is copyrighted and is only for Community of Christ
resources.
- Congregations that sponsor events or need to show endorsement are
encouraged to provide the Community of Christ nameplate* as a graphic to
the appropriate person.
- All reproductions of the church seal should be made from an original so
that optimal sharpness and clarity are achieved.
- Keep in mind that the church seal need not appear on every item that
bears the church’s name and/or nameplate. The nameplate* is the anchor
of our identity program. The seal will be used for specific purposes where
it fits appropriately in terms of design and message.
To request a copy of the CD-ROM with electronic copies of the official
church seal and the nameplate in a variety of formats or if you have

* Nameplate - The nameplate graphically
portrays the church's denominational name. The Community of Christ nameplate
is copyrighted. It is the anchor of the Community of Christ identity
program.
