Links include the Food and Drug Administration, Administration for Children and Families (ACF), Center for Disease Control, and the Office of Public Health. Look under ACF Programs especially.

Program officers in the United States, Africa, the Middle East, Asia, Latin America and Russia explore opportunities to pursue the Foundation's goals, formulate strategies and recommend proposals for funding.

The first key priorities is a belief in empowerment--the right of women and youth to identify their needs and to participate in solving problems that affect them including economic and educational opportunities. The second is a resolve to address social biases and their impact on youth and women whether due to racism, xenophobia, sexism, homophobia, or HIV/AIDS including preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS.

Grants have been awarded in the areas of criminal justice, disadvantaged elderly and youth, environment, population, health, community and economic development, human rights and technology assistance.

http://www.omhrc.gov/ The Office of Minority Health (OMH) advises the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services on public health issues affecting American Indians and Alaska Natives, Asian Americans, Native Hawaiians and Other Pacific Islanders, Blacks/African Americans, and Hispanics/Latinos. The mission of OMH is to improve the health of racial and ethnic populations through the development of effective health policies and programs that help to eliminate disparities in health. http://www.peacedevelopmentfund.org/who/-whowe.htm  The Peace Development Fund makes grants to organizations and projects working to achieve peaceful, just and interdependent relationships among people and nations. They believe the change in values needed to establish a more just and peaceful world will come about only if it is strongly rooted in local communities. Projects that emphasize transnational organizing among workers in Canada, Mexico, and the United States, and efforts from indigenous communities in Canada, Mexico, and the U.S. that are working to address local, regional, national, or international challenges are priorities in three key program areas: *BASE: Building Action for Sustainable Environments, *Criminal Justice,* and Cross Border: A project designed to foster alliances and build capacity among groups working for justice and social change along the U.S./Mexico border, as well as in other parts of Mexico.

SGF supports Native peoples community organizing, economic renewal, cultural revitalization, environmental justice, and sustainable community issues such as youth leadership development, traditional governance, economic empowerment, community-based education, intergenerational learning, and related strategies for sustainable development.

OSISA oversees US$5 million in grants annually in Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe. OSISA is to be a leading regional foundation dedicated to the creation of the ideal of an open society. The programmes broadly focus on economic reform, education, human rights and democracy building as well as media.

Local Alcoans work within their communities to evaluate organizations and make recommendations for funding. Nonprofit organizations that serve local communities should contact the nearest Alcoa facility by writing a one-page letter describing their mission, nature of request, connection to the Areas of Excellence, and contact information. If interested, Alcoa will notify the requesting organization and invite them to submit more information. The majority of grants fit within the following areas: Conservation and Sustainability, Safe and Healthy Children and Families, Global Education and Workplace Skills, Business and Community Partnerships.
