Eleven-year-old Squire Graves stood nervously before the Renton, Washington, Community of Christ congregation. This particular Sunday was an especially eventful day for him because, in addition to giving the offertory at church that morning, he was going to celebrate his birthday that afternoon. But his party would not be a typical eleven-year-old’s birthday party…
Stories can be powerful tools. They can inform, educate, entertain, and invoke a rainbow of emotion. The Ecumenical Stewardship Center, headquartered in Indianapolis, Indiana, recognized the power of the Saints’ stories—three of our “Offertory Stories” are featured in the 2008 edition of its annual Giving magazine. This nationally recognized resource will reach more than 42,000 North American subscribers in 23 denominations this spring.
Each Community of Christ congregation will receive a copy of this valuable resource in May. In addition to our own offertory stories, the magazine is packed with ideas for stewardship ministry.
