A. Disciples’ Generous Response Story: World
Peru—Speak Boldly
Each Sunday we are invited to “share equally” with Mission Tithes for local and
world ministries. These stories are provided to keep us in touch with how your
contributions to Mission Tithes are spreading the peace of Jesus Christ.
This story, Speak Boldly, takes us to Peru in the Northwest of South America
Mission Center. Art Smith relates: Ministry of the Community of Christ continues
to be exciting. Supported by World Ministries Mission Tithes, Wilfredo Carlos of
Callao, Peru, began serving in February 2009 as a full-time minister for his
country. In March, cooperating with Peru missionary coordinator Virgilio Herrera
Castro, a missionary trip brought church leaders to Tingo Mari and Huanuco on
the other side of the Andes Mountains from Lima. Many people there are
interested in establishing the Community of Christ in their cities.
In May and June Misha Barbour and Rachel Glaser graced Peru with their ministry
as WorldService Corps volunteers. Thanks to the partnering of this World Church
program and local initiatives, another visit was organized to Tingo Maria and
Huanuco. Rachel and Misha’s visit to Peru resulted in a farewell worship at the
Monte Sion congregation and a distribution of clothing to needy families there.
Your contributions to World Ministries Mission Tithes provide field ministers
and ministry throughout the world. Thank you for responding faithfully by
sharing so very generously.—Art Smith, president, Northwest of South America
Mission Center
B. Disciples’ Generous Response Story: Local
What is happening to you or in your congregation as a result of giving to
local ministries through Mission Tithes? Share those experiences as part of your
congregation’s Disciples’ Generous Response.

C. Blessing on Our Offering
From James 15:13–14 (NRSV) we read: Are any among you suffering? They should
pray. Are any cheerful? They should sing songs of praise. Are any among you
sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over
them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord.
Sharing our Mission Tithes equally between local and world ministries is part
of sharing the peace of Jesus Christ. Let us share in the prayer of blessing for
our offering.
