The following is an update on World Ministries Mission
Tithes contributions. For stories about what’s happening in Apostle Susan
Skoor's Pacific Mission Field,
read the August Herald “Sharing in the Field” section.
A. World Ministries Mission Tithes Update
An estimated total of $9.9 million was contributed in World Ministries
Mission Tithes in fiscal year 2009, which ended June 30. The budget for the
fiscal year was $10.5 million. Income from tithing was about five percent under
what was needed to balance the budget.
Because of the effect of the challenging global economic climate on the church’s
investments and contributors:
- The FY 2010 budget was reduced by $4 million. We are counting on
receiving $9.8 million in World Ministries Mission Tithes.
- We have begun experiencing decreases in staffing, ministries, and
support services.
How will we respond?
The steady support of ongoing contributors to Local and World Ministries has
been encouraging. What we need now in order to pursue our mission throughout the
world is:
- An increase in the number of people who are committed to consistent
generous giving.
- Disciples who challenge themselves to respond to God’s grace by giving
to their true, and growing, capacity.
B. Congregational Ministries Mission Tithes Update: Local
The congregational financial officer should give an update about the
congregation’s budget at this time. Highlight positive things that have happened
in addition to items that need attention.

C. Blessing on Our Offering
From Doctrine and Covenants 163:2a: we read: Jesus Christ, the embodiment of
God’s shalom, invites all people to come and receive divine peace in the midst
of the difficult questions and struggles of life. Follow Christ in the way that
leads to God’s peace and discover the blessings of all of the dimensions of
salvation.
Sharing our offerings equally between local and world ministries changes
lives around the world. Let us share in the prayer of blessing on our offering.
