A. Disciples’ Generous Response Story: World

China—Wait for the Lord

Each Sunday we are invited to “share equally” with Mission Tithes for local and world ministries. These stories are provided to keep us in touch with how your contributions to Mission Tithes are spreading the peace of Jesus Christ.

This story, Wait for the Lord, takes us to China in the Asia Mission Field. Through Steve Shields, a Community of Christ member relates: Today, I realize that my wait for the Lord to enter my life is over. God is as near as my daily prayers. I am grateful that World Ministries Mission Tithes provided funding for the microfinance project in rural China. I was able to get a loan, and share part of it with my brother. Together we opened a small fabric shop in our village, which helps to support our families.

In the evenings, our small shop comes alive with the smiles and voices of middle school students. We are able to use the shop building to gather the students for Bible study. We feel blessed that we are given the means by which to share the peace of Jesus Christ with our friends and neighbors. The Community of Christ extends ministry in far-flung areas of the world through your contributions to World Ministries Mission Tithes. Lives change as a result. We share Christ’s peace. From Psalm 130:5–6 (NRSV) we read: I wait for the Lord, my soul waits, and in his word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning.
Sharing our Mission Tithes equally between local and world ministries change lives around the world.
