A. Disciples’ Generous Response Story: World

Dominican Republic—Enter Humbly

Dominican Republic—Be Witnesses

Each Sunday we are invited to “share equally” with Mission Tithes for local and world ministries. These stories are provided to keep us in touch with how your contributions to Mission Tithes are spreading the peace of Jesus Christ.

This story, Be Witnesses, takes us to the Jaquimelles Community of Christ in the Dominican Republic. Rick Maupin relates: The Jaquimelles Congregation (pronounced “yuck-e-may-us”) is located in the west central Dominican Republic. It was in this rural area that, early in 2009, we drove past many houses and other buildings typically seen throughout the country. But when we turned at the intersection of two small roads, we saw a building which stood out because of the quality of construction and its size. It was the recently completed Community of Christ. Pastor Mary Valdez talked about the many ways this building will be used, including a central gathering location for youth of the community. During the next two nights of our stay, that became a reality. What a sight to behold! More than 150 youth and children eagerly participated in worship and other activities in the new church. Mary shared a dream of one day dedicating one room in the building as a library for the benefit of the students in the school on the adjoining property.

There are many other hopes and dreams of how this building can benefit Jaquimelles. Angela, a fifteen-year-old member, related how important the Community of Christ was to her and her community. She proudly told me how this congregation shared the love and witness of Jesus through activities such as classes offered to parents and families to strengthen family life. Mary, Angela and other members at Jaquimelles want to thank you for your generosity. Because you generously share through World Ministry Mission Tithes, they have a wonderful church building in which to witnesses the love of Christ in their community.—Rick Maupin, apostle, Caribbean, Mexico, and South Central USA Mission Field

C. Blessing on Our Offering

From Doctrine and Covenants 162:3b we read: That Spirit is even now touching alive the souls of those who feel the passion of discipleship burning deeply within. Many others will respond if you are persistent in your witness and diligent in your mission to the world.

Sharing our Mission Tithes equally between local and world ministries allows others to share the witness of Christ. Let us share in the prayer of blessing for our offering.
