A. Disciples’ Generous Response Story: World

La Buena Fe, Honduras—Your Generosity in Action

Each Sunday we are invited to “share equally” with Mission Tithes for local and world ministries. These stories are provided to keep us in touch with how your contributions to Mission Tithes are spreading the peace of Jesus Christ.

This story, Your Generosity in Action, takes us to La Buena Fe, Honduras, in the Central America Mission Center. Carlos Enrique Mejia relates: Imagine wanting to read the scriptures, but not having them available in your native language. Attend a Community of Christ congregation in the United States or Canada and a copy of the scriptures is readily available. Go south of the United States border, and it’s another story. As pastors and leaders of the Mission Center of Central America gathered in August 2007 to prepare a missionary plan, we asked the leaders to identify what they saw as priorities. All agreed—the number one priority was the need to provide written and translated Community of Christ resources, Bible commentaries, and evangelism material.

June 7, 2008 marked the first delivery of these long – awaited resources in Central America, and delivery continues into South America. Your contributions to World Ministries Mission Tithes make these translations possible. The church continues preparing translations of the scriptures and resources in many different languages and dialects for our brothers and sisters around the world. Just imagine the smiling faces of those who learn about the gospel for the first time – in their own language! From Doctrine and Covenants 163:7a we read: Scripture is an indispensable witness to the Eternal Source of light and truth, which cannot be fully contained in any finite vessel or language.

Sharing our Mission Tithes equally between local and world ministries benefits those around us and far away. Let us share in the prayer of blessing for our offering.
