A. Disciples’ Generous Response Story: World
Honduras—Relief Will Come
Each Sunday we are invited to “share equally” with Mission Tithes for local and
world ministries. These stories are provided to keep us in touch with how your
contributions to Mission Tithes are spreading the peace of Jesus Christ.
This story, Relief Will Come, takes us to Honduras, in the Centro de Misión de
Centroamérica. The rains came, came, and came again. Water poured over the land,
then the landslides and flooding began. The stench of death and disease hovered
in the air. People had to cover their noses and mouths just to breathe.
Thousands were forced from their homes. Then the bad news: more heavy rain
forecast. Amid the devastation – hope that relief would come! And come it did –
$18,000 in Oblation aid to help Community of Christ families, repair church
buildings, and meet the needs of communities.
Carlos Enrique Mejia, apostle, Central and South America Field, said it best,
“Thanks be to God we don’t have many families or members of our church that were
affected.” With so many victims throughout the country, the local church is
already reaching out into communities. All of this thanks to the generous
response of many disciples who, through their offerings to Oblation, made it
possible. Thank you for responding faithfully by sharing so very generously.—Kendra

C. Blessing on Our Offering
From II Peter 3:9 (NRSV) we read: The Lord is not slow about his promise…but
is patient with you.
Sharing our Mission Tithes equally between local and world ministries changes
our lives and those who receive the blessings from it. Let us share in the
prayer of blessing for our offering.
