Staff Organists
Survey Information
In 2009-2010 we asked anyone who was interested to fill our a survey related to
the organ demonstration recitals in order to help us in our planning for the
future. We indicated that when the results were collated, we would put them
online. Below is a summary of the survey question responses, along with links to
the open-ended responses. If you have any comments or suggestions, please
contact either
Jan Kraybill or
Pam Robison.
If the church were to consider a different recital schedule in
an attempt to be more convenient for our guests, what would be the ideal
schedule?
A Saturday eve for out of town guest to drive/fly, and still not miss work
Perhaps some evenings?
one afternoon, one evening, one weekend
Might consider 4:00
We need to advertise to targeted groups - schools, retired, civic - and offer
programs on THEIR schedules in addition to the regular Sunday and summer daily
programs
1 p.m.
Keep daily during the summer, perhaps find out if 3:00 is the optimal time or
if there is a morning time or noon time that is better
How about trying evening vespers? Maybe at 6:00 pm.
a variety of days and times in order to determine when more people attend
The 3:00p schedule during the fall and winter months are the ones I attend
the most. I do not belong to the COC but try to attend as many organ concerts
throughout the KC Metro like also Grace and Holy Trinity. I believe these
recitals are an important part of your Church's heratige and should continue
just as they do in Temple Square in SLC. I have visited their many time also. I
think you might find there are many other denomination members that do visit
these recitals. Maybe they should be published in other places so other people
in the city know they exsist. Do not stop.
2:30 on Sunday's, 3:30 daily in Summer.
Better to stick to routine than experiment. It is impossible to guess what is
best for the most people, so stay with what people have already come to expect.
I doubt there's a time that's better than the current one.
I'm from out of town and I'd go at any time because I'm on holidays.
Tuesday evenings
Perhaps noon on weekdays during the summer - maybe people could attend during
their lunch hour
Have the recital at noon.
There is no perfect time and 3pm is probably as good as any.
Consider other instruments to offer music to the public. Why just the organ
at EVERYTHING we do? How about trying to be more contemporary and meeting the
needs of other cultures and tastes?
Really not sure.
Coordinate recital schedule with Prayer for Peace - Recital at noon could
work. A switch would require lots of advertising.
It's hard to tell. People's work schedules are much different than they were
50 years ago.
Perhaps 5 or 6 pm - to allow for attendance by those leaving work
would need to do a study and explore what time of day are frequented by
visitors at various times of the year, when majority of people in local
available are free from work and school, timing of events in local area, timing
of other events at HQ....
The recitals should be once a month during the fall, winter and spring, and
weekly during the summer. There should definitely be more advertising. The
Community of Christ has an add in the Examiner every Saturday. The Organ concert
and Prayer for Peace should be included there. I have heard that would cost more
for the add. Give me a break. How much can two lines cost? The cost should be
paid for by the Mission Center.
Adding evening recitals when other attractions are closed would be helpful.
Perhaps this could be done by allowing volunteers to play.
I think weekly recitals would be sufficient.
Continue present June-Aud schedule and present Sunday only concerts. However,
consider following Prayer for Peace at 1:30.
There might be an advantage in changing the recital time to be near the
Prayer for Peace time, say 1:30
Most of the people who attend the daily organ recitals are those who happen
to be in the Temple at that time. Changing the time would not change those
circumstances.
1:30 might be a good time since many visitors come in at that time period.
I have had suggestions that a recital during the noon hour might bring area
employees on their lunch break.
Weekly recitals would surely be adequate since the attendance is very low. If
Sunday recitals are continued, a better time would be 1:30 or 2:00, so people
could eat and then come to the recital. 3:00 has always seemed awkward and cuts
into the middle of the afternoon.
