In Support
4 May 2011
To the church:
Without reservation the Council of Twelve Apostles supports our brother Jim’s decision to retire early from his roles as president of the Council of Twelve and director of Field Ministries effective August 1, 2011. Our unconditional love and support of him accompanies our feelings of great sadness. We will miss Jim and the close relationship he has with each of us.
Our grief over losing him as our leader does not diminish our strong belief that Jim has made the right decision. Jim has always put people and relationships first. He is an authentic disciple of Jesus Christ. He lives out the gospel message in tangible, life-changing ways.
Just as the good shepherd left the 99 sheep to tend to the one in need, Jim will lovingly care for his grandson, Matthew. His servant ministry is the highest expression of Christ’s love for the most vulnerable in our midst. Jim’s decision to leave a role that he loves to care for his family is a profound reminder that our families are a sacred gift and divine stewardship.
When Jim leaves the Council of Twelve, his Christ-like influence will continue to shape us as disciples of Christ’s peace. His passion for Christ’s mission will continue to remind us of what matters most as we provide leadership in our apostolic fields. His unwavering devotion to God and God’s people, his steadfast faith, and his compassion for all people will continue to inspire and guide our ministry.
We are thankful for the laughter, tears, and time we have shared with Jim. We are also thankful that he has accepted God’s call to continue his vibrant apostolic witness as an evangelist. We affirm this call as divine and know that just as he blesses us he will continue to bless the many who call this gentle man their friend, mentor, minister, and companion on the journey.
In Christ’s Peace,
