There are seldom enough hours in the day to get everything done that I need to. Attending CLW has given me an opportunity to set aside time for education that is needed to make me a better, more effective minister. This is such a worthwhile event. I whole-heartily endorse CLW! —Joanne Chapman, Coastal Bend USA Mission Center

I first attended CLW in 2006 and took two classes. Both classes were excellent and the instructors were well-informed and personable. It was a joy to walk on the Graceland campus and interact with friends from around the church. What a great way to spend a week of retreat! —Vivian Davidson, South Central States USA Mission Center

Reviving and Equipping Faithful Communities:
Seeking New Life for Ministers and Congregations

Section 163:6c asks, “How can the Spirit fill vessels that are unwilling to expand their capacity to receive and give according to a full measure of God’s grace and truth?” This question speaks to our willingness and provides insight for disciples who want to revive their ministry and congregational life.

We ask God to bless us and our ministry. We want God’s Spirit to work with and through us. At times we stop at asking, as if the increase we seek will occur magically. In truth, willingness to expand and grow involves active seeking to develop gifts, skills, and knowledge.

Both faith and knowledge are equally valuable to discipleship, so the Community of Christ promotes continuing education for its members and ministers. Through learning and practice, disciples are better equipped to offer competent ministry through congregations and to communities. One important place for learning and development is at the Congregational Life Workshop (CLW).

Planning for CLW 2008 is well under way. Excitement is building as we prepare to focus on the theme “Reviving and Equipping Faithful Communities.” Through classes, worship, formation experiences, and fellowship, we explore issues important to congregational life. Foundational elements that made CLW successful are included, and many new features have been added that provide hands-on participation, private reflection, and collective conversations.

Please join us at the 2008 CLW to be held July 27–August 1. Go to www.CofChrist.org/clw  for full event details and registration.
