We are called to make responsible choices that contribute to the purposes of God.
Is it Good for the Children?
“Lord, for the Gift of Children” CCS 490
Many who feel called to care for the human family have heard the question “Is it good for the children?” as a way of evaluating whether choices are helpful or harmful. Enter the meditation with this question in mind as you examine your life and daily choices.
Action: Sit in a quiet place and center your heart and mind on God’s presence. Spend several minutes asking God to bring into your awareness the names and images of the children in your life. You may see their faces or hear their voices as you receive these impressions. Listen deeply to the unique gifts and needs of the children who come to mind. Offer a prayer of blessing for each child and the needs you sense. If you feel led, you may also want to write a note or card to send or personally deliver a message of affirmation and love to each child. Go into your day asking God to show you other choices you can make for the sake of the planet’s children.

Yielding to God’s Uncontainable Spirit
“Spirit Fill Us” CCS 160
Take your group to a body of water—a lake, a river, an ocean. Watch the constant ebb and flow of water meeting land. Wonder at the shape of each—the shape of the water and the shape of the land. Become aware that the water takes the shape of the land today, but the land is shaped by the movement of the water, day after day…century after century. How long does it take for the hard, seemingly immovable land to yield to the water and change? Only a moment, really. A moment of labor can’t be seen now, but after a decade of moments, the change is clear.
Action: Meditate on what our spiritual condition or shape will be if we choose to expose ourselves fully to the power and strength of the Holy Spirit. Try to yield your own hard, resisting shoreline to the free-flowing forces of God’s uncontainable spirit. Wait for the opportunity to choose change. It will come…moment by moment.
