Call to Prayer

Welcome today to this sacred place and
thank you for making time to join us in prayer. Each day in this Temple
dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our
world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of the United Kingdom in our prayers.
Located in western Europe, the first half of the 20th century saw the
United Kingdom's strength seriously depleted in two World Wars. The
second half witnessed the United Kingdom rebuilding itself into a modern
and prosperous European nation. As one of five permanent members of the
United Nations Security Council, a founding member of NATO, and of the
Commonwealth, the United Kingdom pursues a global approach to foreign
policy; it currently is weighing the degree of its integration with
continental Europe. A member of the European Union, it chose to remain
outside of the European Monetary Union for the time being.
Constitutional reform is also a significant issue.
Let us unite as one in supplication to our God and Savior as we pray for
peace in our day and for our time. |

| Scripture Reading: Doctrine and Covenants 117:13 |
| |
Let contentions and quarrelings among you
cease. Sustain each other in peace, and ye shall be blessed with my
Spirit, in comforting and strengthening you for my work. |

Prayer for Peace by Dora Bayerle,

There are hands that help and comfort
Hands that plan and teach
Hands that rest and hands that strive
For a goal just out of reach...
Hands that grasp and hands that give
Hands that work and play
Friendly hands and loving hands
That soothe life's cares away.
But praying hands are dearest
In the sight of God above
For in their sweet and earnest clasp
Are reverence and love...
No hands can do an unkind act
Nor cause another care
Nor sin against Our Father's love
When they are clasped in prayer. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
God of all the earth and those who dwell thereon, we
thank you for your mercy, your goodness, and your plan for all of
creation to be at peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for divine forgiveness when we have not been compassionate or
loving or just. We pray for courage to be your presence in the world. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Hear our prayer, Merciful God, as we pray for others who are victims of
abuse, neglect, hatred, and illness. We pray for those who suffer the
destruction and desolation of war or human selfishness. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
This day we hold to the light of God's love and healing the people of
the United Kingdom. We ask that you bless the peacemakers in the United
Kingdom that they may build lasting peace in their country. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for the concerns of those gathered here this day. May we be
blessed by your healing touch, and find peace in your presence. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We hear you calling, O God, to continue to
engage in spiritual transformation as we build the peaceable kingdom on
earth. We lift up in prayer our church leaders who are preparing for
World Conference in April. May we be open to the Holy Spirit as we join
our hearts and minds to seek your will and direction. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
|
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We lift our hearts and minds and voices in honor and praise to you God
of Peace. In Jesus’ holy name we pray, Amen. |
| |
| Sending Forth |
| |
We conclude our service today with Ministry of Music.
You are invited to remain in the quiet of this place and pray or
meditate for as long as you may wish.
May we be the people of peace we are called to be. Let us go forth from
this place and serve the Lord in peace. |
