Gathering in Silence
Call to Prayer
Lighting of CandleInvitation |
| |
We greet you in the name of God
who calls us to peace. Each day in this sacred place, we pray to God for
peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different
country.
Today we will remember the people of Italy in our prayers. Located in
southern Europe, Italy became a nation-state in 1861. A democratic
republic replaced the monarchy in 1946 and economic revival followed.
Italy was a charter member of NATO and the European Economic Community.
It has been at the forefront of European economic and political
unification, joining the European Monetary Union in 1999.
As we light our candle this day, may its flame cause us to open our
minds, and challenge us to find new avenues of peace as we worship
together. |

What is the great commandment in the law?
And Jesus said, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart,
and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the great and
first commandment. And a second is like it, You shall love your neighbor
as yourself. On these two commandments depend all the law and the
prophets." |

Prayer for Peace by Mylord C. Musuku, Chingola,
Zambia, Africa |
| |
O God;
I bow my head before you as your love transcends your holiness in my
heart.
I hear your voice, my face is searching for you.
I am thirsty for you my Lord;
I am thirsty for your peace.
O Lord you said you'll give me the living water.
I want to find you.
Where are you, my Lord?
O Lord you said, "I came to save that which was lost."
What was lost?
I want to find you, my heart seeks you O Lord.
What is your will for me?
Holy spirit direct me, guide me, and teach me in Jesus, name. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
God of all nations and all peoples, by whatever name you
are known, we come before you in praise and thanksgiving. Guide us into
the joy of being, and the desire for joyful peace for all peoples. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray particularly for the nation and people of Italy this day. May
they know the light of your love, and the peace that only you may
provide. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for the concerns of those gathered here today. Great God, we
would also ask for your guidance as we try to live by your standards of
peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Forgive our sins of selfishness and pride, we humbly ask. Teach us of
your peace, O God, that we may become the builders of peace on this
earth. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for justice in this community as well as around the world. Help
us to understand that you have provided enough for all, and we need to
learn to share it with each other. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We hear you calling, O God, to continue to
engage in spiritual transformation as we build the peaceable kingdom on
earth. We lift up in prayer our church leaders who are preparing for
World Conference in April. May we be open to the Holy Spirit as we join
our hearts and minds to seek your will and direction. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
|
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Hear our collective prayers, O God of Peace, that your peace may become
the peace of this world. Amen |
| |
| Sending Forth |
| |
Our service will end with Ministry of Music. You are
invited to remain and pray or meditate in the quiet of this place for as
long as you may wish.
May the God of peace be with us as we go forth to be peacemakers in our
world. Amen. |
