Invitation

Good afternoon, and welcome to this time of prayer and worship. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.

Today we will remember the people of Dominica in our prayers. Located in the Caribbean, much of Dominica is protected as national wilderness. Dominica is poor and dependent on its economic mainstay, bananas although governments have sought to broaden the economic base. Some 3,000 Carib Indians still living on Dominica are the only pre-Columbian population remaining in the eastern Caribbean.

We greet you in the name of God who cares that all live in peace.

Grace to you and peace from God…and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Prayer for Peace by Don Carter, Lamoni, Iowa

Gracious God, our heavenly Father, we humbly come before you in prayer for world peace.

If we are left to ourselves in our own righteousness, peace will never come. May we recognize the way of peace and allow the good Spirit to bring a change within our hearts. May people everywhere recognize the joy of peace, when they suppress negative feelings or harmful conflict.

Let the kind of peace that we pray for be within us and cause us to be sensitive: to the hurts, injustices, problems and sorrows we see around us. May we alleviate these problems. O Lord, grace our lives with peace as we believe world peace can be a reality. Amen

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate.
Great God, Creator of all that is or has ever been, we thank you for knowing us, a small portion of your creation. We thank you for all the blessings of this life; for family, friends, and those who give particular meaning to our lives.
The People Pray in Silence
We confess our shortcomings before you, even our sins that prevent us from being the persons you created us to be. Forgive us, we humbly pray, and guide us into paths of truer servanthood. Help us to be the peacemakers we yearn to be.
The People Pray in Silence
We lift up before you the country and the people of Dominica. May they know peace among themselves and with all your people.
The People Pray in Silence
May our desires be a reflection of your plan for all creation, as we ask your blessing on our needs and concerns this day.
The People Pray in Silence
We hear you calling, O God, to continue to engage in spiritual transformation as we build the peaceable kingdom on earth. We lift up in prayer our church leaders who are preparing for World Conference in April. May we be open to the Holy Spirit as we join our hearts and minds to seek your will and direction.
The People Pray in Silence
Please use this space to pray for any current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
The People Pray in Silence
Hear our prayer, O God, as we offer ourselves to be instruments of your peace. Amen.

Sending Forth

We conclude our service today with Ministry of Music. We invite you to remain in the quiet of this place to pray or meditate for as long as you may wish.

As we go back into the world from this time of prayer for peace, let us remember Jesus' words, "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you." God will guide us as we work for peace in our world. Amen.
