Call to Prayer

Welcome today to this sacred place, and we
greet you in the name of the Prince of Peace, Jesus the Christ. Each day
in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for
peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different
country.
Today we will remember the people of Chile in our prayers. Located in
South America, Chileans have Latin America's longest tradition of
political stability and civil liberty. Sound economic policies,
maintained consistently since the 1980s, have contributed to steady
growth and have helped secure the country's commitment to democratic and
representative government. Chile has increasingly assumed regional and
international leadership roles befitting its status as a stable,
democratic nation. Chile's distinctive culture has survived the violence
and repression of its recent history and is thriving once again thanks
to a people noted for their warmth and resilience.
We have come from our daily lives to pray that the light of peace will
heal the dark places of the earth. Let us worship as one and thereby be
the light we are called to be. |

| Scripture Reading: Doctrine and Covenants 161:6b |
| |
Heed the urgent call to become a global
family united in the name of the Christ, committed in love to one
another, seeking the kingdom for which you yearn and to which you have
always been summoned. That kingdom shall be a peaceable one and it shall
be known as Zion. |

Prayer for Peace by Lu Mountenay,

Creator God,
We come as a community aware of your presence which unites us and
thankful for your Spirit which makes us one.
As we anticipate your guidance and prepare for your participation in our
work, may all we do demonstrate our faith in the possibility of the
peaceable kingdom.
May we be enthused with the message that war and death hold no permanent
dominion over us because of your sacrificial lamb.
May we increase our witness so that peace in our heart spills out into
the world. May we have the courage to speak out against war; and may our
faith be rewarded by the support of peacemakers everywhere.
Our trust is in you and your ways. We know it will happen. Yea,
Lord...we believe! |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
In peace we pray to you, Lord God. For all people in
their daily life and work; for our families, friends, and neighbors, and
for those who are alone. We pray for this community, the nations, and
the world. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Today we remember especially your people in Chile, and for all who work
for justice, freedom and peace in that country. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We also pray for the just and proper use of your creation; for the
victims of hunger, fear, injustice, and oppression. We pray for all who
are in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble; for those who minister to
the sick, the friendless, and the needy. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for the special needs and concerns of those gathered here. Hear
our petitions and fit a blessing to our needs we humbly pray. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We confess to you our shortcomings; in your compassion forgive us our
sins, and guide us to be better peacemakers. Teach us of your peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We hear you calling, O God, to continue to
engage in spiritual transformation as we build the peaceable kingdom on
earth. We lift up in prayer our church leaders who are preparing for
World Conference in April. May we be open to the Holy Spirit as we join
our hearts and minds to seek your will and direction. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
|
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
May we be at peace and may we be engaged in peacemaking is our earnest
prayer. Amen. |
