Call to Prayer

Welcome to this sacred place, and we are so
grateful that you came to pray with us today. Each day in this Temple,
dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our
world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of Argentina in our prayers. Argentina
is located in South America. Pre-Columbian Argentina was farmed by
sedentary Indian groups. Although Indian resistance discouraged it,
Argentina was eventually ruled by Spain and gained independence in 1816.
During the 20th century, Argentina experienced weak civilian rule and
economic failure lead to a military coup and paved the way for a
dictatorship by 2001. The country has returned to civilian rule, but
economic problems continue to be a significant issue.
Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is hatred, let us
sow love. Where there is injury, let us offer pardon. Where there is
discord, let us build peace. May we all learn of your peace. |

First of all, I urge that prayers be
offered for everyone—petitions, intercessions and thanksgivings—and
especially for rulers and those in authority, so that we may be able to
live godly and reverent lives in peace and quiet. |

Prayer for Peace by Evelyn Masek, Kirtland,

Almighty God,
You who created us of one blood color within and many skin colors
without – we come in praise and appreciation of our sameness and also of
our differences. We know your love for each of us is the same as your
love for all of us.
We long for peace and harmony in our lives but there are so many things
that separate us: race, religion, wealth, sin, poverty, sickness. We
need your help that we might grow in the kind of love that causes us to
practice the art of not only listening, but hearing, each other. To
listen with our hearts and not just our ears. To give and receive
respect. To be thoughtful and caring.
Teach us to hurt when others hurt, and rejoice when they rejoice. It is
only in the sharing that we will grow in understanding. Peace at home
and throughout the world revolves around understanding and mutual
respect.
We desire to plant the seeds of peace by our words and deeds so that one
day we may realize a bountiful harvest of goodness and earthly love.
We thank you for blessing us with heavenly love that promises us a place
provided for us – a place of peace that passes all human understanding.
Make us instruments of that peace, we pray, that we might not only talk
about your kingdom, but be your kingdom in this place.
We pray in the name of your son, Jesus, the Prince of Peace, Amen |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
God of all creation we praise you. We give thanks for
this time of remembering your goodness, your loving care, your guidance
and your plan for creation to be at peace. |

Forgive us when we have not remembered and have been guilty of actions
and thoughts that did not promote peace. Guide us we pray. |

This day, O God, we remember Argentina and its people who struggle daily
for peace and acceptance and justice. Help them to persist in
establishing justice and truth as a firm and lasting foundation for
peace. Adding to the hardships of their lives have been heavy rains and
flooding. May the people of Argentina recover from the recent floods,
and find the strength to deal with their losses and move forward into
life. |

We hear you calling, O God, to continue to engage in spiritual
transformation as we build the peaceable kingdom on earth. We lift up in
prayer our church leaders who are preparing for World Conference in
April. May we be open to the Holy Spirit as we join our hearts and minds
to seek your will and direction. |

We would also remember the cares and concerns of those gathered here
this day. Fit a blessing to our needs, we humbly pray. |
