Welcome to this time of prayer
for peace as we worship our God and seek guidance. Each day in this
sacred space, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each
day we pray for a different country.
Today we will remember the people of the Republic of the Congo in our
prayers. The Republic of the Congo is located in Western Africa. Since
it achieved independence in 1960, political turmoil has hampered the
country. After almost three decades of Marxist rule, Congo adopted a
multiparty, democratic system in 1992. Conflict in the late 1990s
derailed democracy, but a new constitution in 2002 brings the hope of
stability.
"Come Lord Jesus, enter into our hearts and minds as we worship together
in your name. Amen." |

Prayer for Peace by Urbain Mbenga,
Brazzaville, Congo |

Lord God,
We are here once again inclined at your feet to plead for peace and
mercy for our country. Because, we know that it is through you that we
can obtain them. Our country has just held presidential elections, as
well as elections at all other levels. The experience has shown us that
despite the good organization of these elections, they have never
brought peace to our people. This is why we implore your light for the
Congo, in order to make the Congo a community of peace, love, hope and
joy.
Oh God, despite the technological progress that our world accomplishes
at great speed, we are losing one of the most precious gifts that you
had bequeathed us: and that is universal peace. Irresponsible human
choices generate every day acts of terrorism, attacks, suicides,
homicides, marginalization and others that sometimes join with the
natural calamities.
Who will accomplish for us your promises of peace? There is none but
you, the Prince of the Peace, who can grant our world peace and quiet,
through the love of your Son Jesus Christ who is our Shalom. In Jesus
name we pray. Amen |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
Lord of all space, we thank you for knowing us. We thank
you for family, friends, those who will be friends, the earth and all
its bounty. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We rejoice when one step is made toward peace within nations. On this
day, please hear our prayers concerning the nation and people of the
Republic of Congo. May we all be encouraged to seek peace and justice
for all people as they learn to love one another. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We lament the causes of injustice and seek enlightenment that we may
understand better our part in peace for the world. We confess that we
are less than you created us to be and humbly ask forgiveness. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We would not forget the need for peace in ourselves, our families, our
nation, and our church. Hear our concerns, we pray. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.

This day, in response to your call, we prepare ourselves to listen for
your guidance for peace in our world. Amen. |

| Sending Forth |

We conclude our service today with Ministry of Music.
You are invited to remain to pray or meditate in the quiet of this place
for as long as you may wish
As we leave this place of sanctuary, let us remember that God will dry
the tears in the eyes of the oppressed. God’s peace does reign. Hope is
justified, and love does have the final word. |
