Call to Prayer
Lighting of CandleInvitation |

Welcome today to this sacred
place. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we
pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a
different country.
Today we will hold up the people of the Vatican City in our prayers. The
Lateran Treaty between Italy and the Holy See created an independent
Vatican City in 1929. Headed by the Pope, Pope Benedict XVI, the tiny
enclave in the heart of Rome is the administrative and spiritual capital
of Roman Catholicism, and the world's smallest independent state. During
the working week, the population increases fivefold as residents of Rome
cross into Vatican City. The Holy See maintains diplomatic relations
with more than 150 countries. Present concerns of the Holy See include
religious freedom, international development, the Middle East,
terrorism, interreligious dialogue and reconciliation, and the
application of church doctrine in an era of rapid change and
globalization.
We have come from our daily lives to pray that the light of peace will
heal the dark places of the earth. Let us worship as one and thereby be
the light we are called to be. |

| Scripture Reading: Doctrine and Covenants 161:6b |
| |
Heed the urgent call to become a global
family united in the name of the Christ, committed in love to one
another, seeking the kingdom for which you yearn and to which you have
always been summoned. That kingdom shall be a peaceable one and it shall
be known as Zion. |

Prayer for Peace by Mother Theresa and St.
Francis of Assisi |
| |
Make us worthy, Lord, to serve our fellow men throughout
the world who live and die in poverty and hunger.
Give them through our hands, this day their daily bread, and by our
understanding love give peace and joy.
Lord, make me a channel of Thy peace, that where there is hatred I may
bring love; that where there is wrong, I may bring the spirit of
forgiveness; that where there is doubt, I may bring faith; that where
there is error, I may bring truth; that where there is discord, I may
bring harmony; that where there is despair, I may bring hope; that where
there are shadows, I may bring light; that where there is sadness, I may
bring joy.
Lord, grant that I may seek to comfort rather than to be comforted; to
understand than to be understood; to love than to be loved; for it is by
forgetting self that one finds; it is by dying that one awakens to
eternal life. Amen. |

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the
moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
O God, we thank you for all the blessings in our lives:
for friends, families, and the everyday blessings of warm homes, food,
and other necessities of life which we often take for granted. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
O God, we thank you for your unfailing love in the joyful as well as in
the troubled times of our lives. We would not forget the people of
Vatican City. May the people there help teach the world of peace. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
O God, we confess our shortcomings before you. We know we often fail to
live up to our potential. Search our hearts and make us aware of our
rebellion, our selfishness, our pride, our unwillingness to forgive, our
envy, our misplaced priorities. In your great compassion for our
weakness, we pray you will forgive our sins and give us the power to
overcome them. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
O God, we pray for those among us who are in physical or emotional
distress and pain. Be with them and bless them by the power of your Holy
Spirit. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
|
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
O God, we invite your presence to dwell among us to guide us into
peaceful ways. May we truly be peacemakers in our world. Amen. |

| Sending Forth |

Thank you for supporting us in prayer today, and we will
end the service with Ministry of Music. We invite you to remain in the
quiet of this place to pray or meditate for as long as you may wish.
As we answer the call to be peacemakers and peacekeepers in our world,
Jesus our Lord, will be with us. Go in peace and create peace, for all
our sakes. Amen. |
