Call to Prayer

It is good to welcome you to
this sacred place, and thank you for joining us in prayer.
Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to
God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a
different country.
Today we will hold up the people of Saint Lucia in our prayers. Saint
Lucia is located in the Caribbean. St. Lucia gained full independence as
a member of the British Commonwealth in 1979. Bananas were an important
export crop, but in the 1990s local farmers became unable to compete
against larger South American banana producers. As a result, St. Lucia’s
export revenue has declined, and unemployment is on the rise. Tourism
continues to boom, although construction has not always followed
environmentally sound guidelines.
Seldom does God shout to get our attention often just a whisper. Let us
listen ever so closely. God is calling ever so urgently. |

| Scripture Reading: Jeremiah 29:4-11 NRSV |
| |
Thus says the Lord of hosts, the God of
Israel, “Build houses and live in them; seek the welfare of the city
where I have sent you and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its
welfare you will find your welfare. I know the plans I have for you,”
says the Lord, “plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future
and a hope.” |

Prayer for Peace by VaLonna Walter, Pocatello,
Idaho |

Almighty God,
As your servants and disciples, we are called to be the salt of the
earth, to be leaven, and to be light. We lift up our hearts to you,
Lord, and offer you our dedication to be so.
May we each be the witnessing agent, the loving neighbor and stranger on
the street that brings savor and flavor in the form of true charity to
the lives of others.
Bear us up, guide us, and send us forth as peacemakers and reconcilers
to serve you well, to glorify you, and to bring blessings to our souls.
In the name of Christ Jesus we pray. Amen. |

Our service will conclude now with Ministry of Music.
You are invited to remain to pray or meditate in the quiet of this place
for as long as you may wish.
Let us go from this house and be peacemakers. It is to this mission that
we have been called and commissioned. The God of Peace will guide us.
Amen. |
