Call to Prayer

We greet you in the name of the
Prince of Peace, and welcome today to this sacred place. Each day in
this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace
in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will hold up the people of Greece in our prayers. Greece is
located in Europe and is often considered the cradle of Western thought,
literature, art, architecture, and democracy. Ruled by the Macedonians,
Rome, the Ottomans, and the Turks, Greece became a monarchy in 1833.
Although the monarchy lasted well into the 20th century, the Communist
Party had wide support and civil war broke out between the two groups
following World War II. Turkey invaded Greece in 1974, and tensions
between Greece and Turkey continue to be volatile.
We come from this place in time and space to worship the One who, from
everlasting to everlasting, is God. Come, let us enter this worship with
joy. |

| Scripture Reading: Doctrine and Covenants 161:7 |
| |
The Spirit of the One you follow is the
spirit of love and peace. That Spirit seeks to abide in the hearts of
those who would embrace its call and live its message. The path will not
always be easy, the choices will not always be clear, but the cause is
sure and the Spirit will bear witness to the truth, and those who live
the truth will know the hope and the joy of discipleship in the
community of Christ. |

Prayer for Peace by Verva Conger,
Independence, Missouri |
| |
Our Lord and Master, yet loving Father and friend, we
bow down before Thee. How can we have peace on this earth if we cannot
live at peace with our mate, our children, our neighbor, or a co-worker?
We need thy help to not put so much importance on "little" things that
really won't make a big difference, but to love at all cost.
May we learn to desire the same good for others as we want for
ourselves. May we learn not to repeat something about another unless it
is true, helpful, and kind. May our efforts be exerted toward promoting
what is right for all, and uplifting the downtrodden, and speaking and
living the message of Jesus.
Come into our hearts, dear Lord, and give us love for all creation, that
we might be at peace with ourselves, and so with all humankind.
We pray in the name of Jesus. Amen. |
