We are grateful for this
beautiful, peaceful place to come and worship this day. Thank you for
sharing your gift of presence in this time of worship. Each day in this
Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in
our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.
Today we will hold up the people of Oman in our prayers. Oman is located
in the Middle East. Since 1970, the government ‘s modernization program
has opened the country to the outside world and has preserved a
long-standing political and military relationship with the United
Kingdom. Oman's moderate, independent foreign policy has sought to
maintain good relations with all Middle Eastern countries. Oil, exported
since 1967, has financed roads, schools, and hospitals. The majority of
Omanis still farm or fish, and protection of fisheries and coastal zones
is promoted. In 1997, Omani women were given the right to vote and to
stand for election to the Consultative Council, whose executive powers
are curtailed. Five years later, the same right was extended to all
voters above the age of 21.
Christ, whose presence shines like daybreak in the darkness of all our
pain and fear, calls us to worship. May the light of Christ fill our
hearts this day. |

Dear God,
You are God of the universe, the universal God, creator of all persons
in all nations, with each one as diverse as the countries and continents
from which they come. All have been touched with the beauty of your
loving hand.
Because of your presence in the life of Jesus Christ, we are able to
comprehend better your great love for all people.
Because of Christ's compassion and heartache in the experience of
injustice, we know something of the anguish you must feel when wars and
destructive causes bring suffering to your children.
We pray for the leaders and promoters of peace. May the peacemakers of
every nation be strengthened in their resolve to fight injustice with
love. May multitudes rise to support the process of peace.
Help us to uphold in our prayers, the victims of violence as well as the
champions of peace.
Help us to be aware that in our homes, in our communities, and in all of
our relationships, peace must begin with us. May we be strengthened with
Christ-like personalities that will enable us to love, to understand
others, to be able to see another's point of view and accept their right
to think differently.
Help all people to be the leaven of peace in their own sphere of
influence. May we respond to your love.
In the name of the Prince of Peace, Jesus the Christ, we pray. Amen. |

moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate. |
| |
In peace, we pray to you, Lord God. We humbly ask your
blessing upon all people in their daily life and work; for our families,
friends, and neighbors, and for those who are alone. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We pray for the well-being of this community, the nations, and
especially the people of Oman this day. They are a people who practice
peace. Bless them in their efforts to be a light of peace in this
war-torn corner of our world. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
We remember the special needs and concerns of those gathered here, and
we confess to you our shortcomings. In your compassion forgive us our
sins, we ask. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Open our eyes for new ways to accomplish just and proper use of your
creation. We have exploited the land and its people. Teach us to work
for justice, freedom, and peace, not for ourselves alone but for all
persons. |
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Please use this space to pray for any
current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world
that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
|
| The People Pray in Silence |
| |
Hear our prayers, Great God, and send your Holy Spirit to be with us as
we seek to know you and do your will. Amen. |
