Invitation

Welcome today to this sacred place. Each day in this Temple dedicated to the pursuit of peace, we pray to God for peace in our world. In addition, each day we pray for a different country.

Today we will hold up the people of Andorra in our prayers. Located in Southwestern Europe, long isolated and impoverished, mountainous Andorra has achieved considerable prosperity since World War II through its tourist industry. Many immigrants are attracted to the thriving economy with its lack of income taxes. In March 1993, Andorrans voted to establish the country as an independent, democratic 'parliamentary co-principality', placing full sovereignty in the hands of the Andorran people, with the French and Spanish co-princes continuing to function as joint heads of state with greatly reduced powers. Andorra joined the Council of Europe in 1994.

We have come from our daily lives to pray that the light of peace will heal the dark places of the earth. Let us worship as one and thereby be the light we are called to be.

Scripture Reading: Doctrine and Covenants 156:5a
The temple shall be dedicated to the pursuit of peace. It shall be for reconciliation and for healing of the spirit.

Prayer for Peace by Linda Mountenay, Lamoni Iowa

  Creator God,

We come as a community aware of your presence which unites us and thankful for your Spirit which makes us one.

As we anticipate your guidance and prepare for your participation in our work, may all we do demonstrate our faith in the possibility of the peaceable kingdom.

May we be enthused with the message that war and death hold no permanent dominion over us because of your sacrificial lamb.

May we increase our witness so that peace in our heart spills out into the world. May we have the courage to speak out against war; and may our faith be rewarded by the support of peacemakers everywhere.

Our trust is in you and your ways. We know it will happen. Yea, Lord...we believe! Amen

Prayers of the People
Please join us now, praying the Prayers of the People. During the moments of silence, you are invited to pray silently or meditate.
In peace we pray to you, Lord God. For all people in their daily life and work; for our families, friends, and neighbors, and for those who are alone.
The People Pray in Silence
We pray for this community, the nations, and the world. Today we remember especially your people in Andorra, and for all who work for justice, freedom, and peace.
The People Pray in Silence
We also pray for the just and proper use of your creation; for the victims of hunger, fear, injustice, and oppression. We pray for all who are in danger, sorrow, or any kind of trouble; for those who minister to the sick, the friendless, and the needy.
The People Pray in Silence
We pray for the special needs and concerns of those gathered here. Hear our petitions, and fit a blessing to our needs we humbly pray.
The People Pray in Silence
We confess to you our shortcomings; in your compassion forgive us our sins, known and unknown, things done or left undone.
The People Pray in Silence
Please use this space to pray for any current concern or event in our community, city, state, nation or world that you feel needs to be held up to God for prayerful consideration.
The People Pray in Silence
May we be at peace and may we be engaged in peacemaking is our earnest prayer. Amen.

Sending Forth
We will conclude our service today with Ministry of Music. You are invited to leave quietly or remain to pray or meditate in the quiet of this place for as long as you may wish.

Go now, in peace, in love and in understanding of what it means to create peace. Amen
