connecting the staff community

Teamwork Works!

Legal Services gives a big "Thank You" to the Visitor Services Team for all their help with Legal's numerous projects. "They have cheerfully taken on updating our legal books and lists.  They are a huge help with some of our work load!  Thank you!" said the Legal team.

Ushers Needed!

Have some time you can share with the Peace Colloquy?  Ushers are needed for Friday night and Saturday during the day and evening.  Time options are flexible – give an evening, a couple of hours, or the entire weekend.  Contact Cara Casey, ext. 3071, to volunteer.  You won’t regret it!

Temple Ambassadors Launch Recognition Awards

Volunteering to serve the community as representatives of Community of Christ is the mission of the Temple Ambassador Corps.  Their desire to honor outstanding service of particular individuals led to the establishment of the Temple Ambassador Award in 2009.  On September 21 the first three recipients were honored:  Karen Freburg, Francis “Pat” Hansen, and Thomas Sherman.  The plaque honoring these individuals hangs in the Temple foyer.  The Corps currently has about 40 members.  If you are interested in being part of the Temple Ambassador Corps, contact Cathy Loving, ext. 2030, for more information.

The Disciple’s Journey – Shalom Place

Have you stopped by The Disciple’s Journey Living Christ’s Peace exhibit in the Shalom Place at the Temple?  It’s an excellent place to spend some break time in reflection on the journey.  Stop by soon.

Did You Know?

There are several member of our staff who serve as a Notary Public.  If you need their services please contact:  Penny Edwards, Jennifer Dunsdon, Katie Clark, Mark Reiter, Lillian Holland, Jeanette Hicks, or Sandie Mohler.  If someone else is a certified notary, please list contact the NewsPeace Editor to update.

Jason Brownlee, Audio Visual Team, is organizing and coordinating the audio visual equipment check-out process.  If you have equipment (LCD projectors, Portable Screen, Portable Speakers) checked out at this time, contact Jason Brownlee.  An updated check-out process will be published in the near future.

Returned Mail to International Headquarters - When sending mail through the postal system please include the team or name of the sender in the upper left corner of the envelope.  Returned mail comes to the Membership Records team who in turn checks the return address and sends the correspondence back to the sender.  Without a sender’s name on the envelope the Membership Records team must open the mail in order to return the correspondence.  At times there may be sensitive or confidential information and they’d prefer not to open these envelopes.  Thank you for your help and sensitivity to this process.

The Maintenance Team needs your help.  If you notice anything broken, stained ceiling tile, or any maintenance issues in your personal office space, contact Facility Services, ext. 1308, so these items can be put on a list for repair.  Seasons of the Spirit Logo

Check it Out!  NEW Disciple Formation web pages!  New recommendations and ideas for Disciple Formation.  Don’t miss out.

Wash your hands!  It’s one of the best things you can do to stay healthy all year around.  If soap and water are not available, hand sanitizer stations (free-standing and affixed to the wall) are located around International Headquarters.  Take advantage of these!

Contractors are replacing concrete curbs and sidewalks along River Blvd. (west side of Temple).  The street has been narrowed to accommodate the construction equipment.  Thank you for not parking along River Blvd. during October 5-23.

Who's Who???

Upcoming Events -- Mark Your Calendar!

October 29 at 1:30 p.m.: An informational webinar for all U.S. staff in the Temple Continents room. Information regarding the Health Savings Account plan for 2010 and benefits open enrollment for 2010 will be shared.  U.S. staff not in Independence can participate by linking at http://www.CofChrist.org/broadcast/staffcast.asp.

November 16 – December 23: A special exhibit of more than 200 international Nativities will be on loan and can be viewed in the Temple Shalom Place and World Plaza corridor. The nativities were collected from around the world (Africa, Europe, South America, the Middle East and more) by Diane Houk and her husband of Independence, Missouri.  This is a significant opportunity to prepare for Advent and Christmas as expressed by our global family.

December 13: you are warmly invited to the annual Advent Service in the Temple sanctuary beginning at 7:00 p.m. CST.  The Council of Twelve will plan, preside, and participate in various ways throughout the service.  The theme, “Follow the Star,” takes us on a journey to Bethlehem and beyond.  Come early and view the Nativity exhibit.  The exhibit opens at 5 p.m. this evening.  This special service of the season will be webcast.

Reminders Never Hurt

Here are just a few reminders when it comes to e-mail etiquette.  How many do you know?

  • Always check your spelling and grammar.
  • Don’t write in capital letters. IF YOU WRITE IN CAPITALS, IT SEEMS AS IF YOU ARE SHOUTING.  This can be highly annoying and might trigger an unwanted response.
  • Don’t leave out the message thread.  When you reply to an e-mail, include the original mail in your reply; in other words, click “Reply” instead of “New Mail.”
  • Try to break your message into logical paragraphs.
  • Reply promptly.
  • Don’t overuse “Reply to All.”  Only use Reply to All if you really need your message to be seen by each person who received the original message.
