Temple in Top 10

In the Kansas City Star’s April 6 edition of Star Magazine, the Community of Christ Temple and Auditorium were named in the article, “Built to Thrill.” Reporter Elaine Garrison asked readers which Kansas City building is your favorite and highlighted the top ten choices.

Joining the likes of landmarks like the KC Power and Light building, Liberty Memorial, and the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, the Temple came in at number nine.

When asked why he admires the Temple, volunteer Lloyd Slaght is quoted in the caption saying, “Its dedication to peace; its striking architecture, with the beautiful, inspirational spiral; and its beautiful-sounding organ.”

The full article is posted on the board in the Temple break room.

Bring Your Child to Work

Take Your Child to Work Day is Thursday, April 24. While we are not planning a formal program this year, you are welcome to bring your child for part or all of the day. Please let your team lead know that you will be sharing with your child at work this day.

For some children, it’s a treat to visit the Children’s Peace Pavilion while they’re here. Please remember that children must be supervised while they are visiting the Pavilion and that most children can complete the activities in about 1 to 1½ hours.

It is a special experience to share with a child what their parents do all day at work. If you have any questions, please contact your enrichment group leader.

Flexible Schedules

The opportunity to work four 10-hour days is available for headquarters staff assistants again this summer from June 2-August 31. Coordination of this schedule needs to be arranged and approved by your team leader. For full details – see the staff manual policy #601.

E-mail Distribution Lists

A new headquarters distribution list in Outlook is called “IHQ Users” This new group appears in the Outlook Global Address List (GAL) and combines both “IHQ Independence” and “IHQ non-Independence.

The new “IHQ Users” will replace the “HQ Users” list. The old “HQ Users” list will remain until April 30 to allow time to replace it in any personal distribution list you may have created

We are Community of Christ

At a recent staff meeting, the following reading was shared as the opening worship. Thanks to Susan Naylor for sharing it with us.

WE

It is in every one of us
We, the Community of Christ
are called to make a difference.
We, the Community of Christ, speak for the voiceless.
We, the Community of Christ, step out in faith.
We, the Community of Christ, claim our name.
We, the Community of Christ, hold each other in trust.
We, the Community of Christ, look past the Church’s door
and see a world in need.

We, the Community of Christ, lift up each one.
We, the Community of Christ, are hope-givers.
We, the Community of Christ, are sanctuary.
We, the Community of Christ, call one another to accountability.
We, the Community of Christ, cry out for justice.

We, the Community of Christ, promote joy,
Promote hope.
Promote love.
Promote peace.

We the Community of Christ, celebrate as family.
We, the Community of Christ, offer grace.
We, the Community of Christ, recognize worth in all persons.
We, the Community of Christ, are instruments of peace.
We, the Community of Christ, proclaim Jesus Christ.

We are the Community of Christ.
In community,
In Christ,
We are One.
