IHQ Move
Beginning December 11, a moving company will be onsite to help facilitate our
office moves. Questions from around headquarters have been addressed in a
Frequently Asked Questions section, and a Fast Facts page is available for quick
viewing. Visit Team Central at
http://CofChrist.netcipia.net/xwiki/bin/view/Main/IHQ+Move to read these
documents.
Pay Increase for 2007
A 3 percent pay increase for all International Headquarters and Field staff
was announced on November 8. This pay increase will go into effect January 1,
2007.
International Headquarters Staff Development System (SDS) and Ministerial
Assessment System (MAS)
The SDS/MAS process provides an opportunity to review past ministerial goals,
obtain feedback, and project your goals and development plan for the coming
year. Below are the steps for completing your 2006 and 2007 MAS. Your enrichment
group leader will provide deadline dates for the completion of these forms.
- Review your 2006 MAS and summarize, in the appropriate spaces, what was
achieved in relation to your “Principal Performance Goals.”
- Forward your 2006 MAS to your enrichment group leader for completion of
the overall evaluation with comments. It is anticipated that you will have
an opportunity to meet with your enrichment group leader for discussion and
feedback. Both parties will sign the completed MAS and send the original to
HRM for inclusion in your individual file.
- In consultation with your enrichment group leader and team leader(s),
plan the focus and goals of your ministry for 2007. The completed 2007 SDS/MAS
is to be sent to HRM for inclusion in your individual file. You are
encouraged to submit your form electronically.
- Keep a copy of your 2007 SDS/MAS document for reference throughout the
year.
Forms can be found at M:/SHARE/Human Resource
Ministries/Development-Evaluation
Ministerial Development Plan (MDP)
The MDP provides an opportunity for updating your professional development
history and communicating your comprehensive leadership development goals for
the coming year. This review process helps the enrichment group leader and team
leader(s) support your specific development goals while providing general
information for the overall design of comprehensive leadership development. If
we do not receive an updated MDP, we will assume there have been no changes from
the previous year. Complete or update your previous MDP for 2007. Once completed
and signed by you and your enrichment group leader, send the original to Becky
Savage. (HRM does not maintain these forms.) The MDP form can be obtained from
your enrichment group leader.
If you have additional questions related to the SDS/MAS or MDP processes, please
contact your enrichment group leader.
Position Descriptions
The objective of a position description is to define the desirable
experience, skills, duties, and responsibilities. The position description form
has been developed to help articulate appropriate information to provide a clear
understanding of the position role in the organization.
Each position description is evaluated by using four factors established by
Community of Christ:
- education/training and experience;
- accountability and impact of the position on the organization;
- complexity and resourcefulness;
- coordination and/or supervision (staff and/or projects).
In addition to these four factors, desirable competencies are assigned to
each position. Other areas of the position description provide general
information about the duties, responsibilities, and expectations assigned to the
position. The position description is not a list of tasks, but rather describes
broad functions.
Review of position descriptions by HRM and/or the grading team will be
done in different phases.
Phase 1: All staff who are in incumbent positions in the redesign are being
asked to participate with their team leader(s) and enrichment group leader to
develop a position description that reflects their current duties and
responsibilities. For some, these have not changed significantly. Others,
because of reduction in staff, may have assumed additional tasks that have
changed or added to the focus of their position. Incumbent positions will be
reviewed to determine if there is significant change and how that relates to the
assigned grade. These positions need to be in the current format with
International Headquarters terminology incorporated into the description. When
there is consensus regarding the position (individual staff, team leader(s) and
enrichment group leader) it should be sent electronically to
csmith@CofChrist.org by January 31,
2007.
Phase 2: Following World Conference, staff in new positions in the redesign will
be asked to participate with their team leader and enrichment group leader to
review the position description and ensure it reflects the actual duties,
responsibilities, and expectations. The position description may have slight or
no changes from the earlier focus. The revised position descriptions are to be
sent electronically to
csmith@CofChrist.org by April 15, 2007.
Position Grading
In consultation with the First Presidency, the grading team is composed of
both field and IHQ staff who have been trained to participate collaboratively
and consider all viewpoints in order for the team to come to consensus using a
clearly defined evaluation process. Each position description is evaluated on
the position content—not the incumbent or the position title. The evaluation
system is applied consistently from position to position. If questions arise due
to lack of clarity, the grading team consults with the team leader(s) and/or the
enrichment group leader.
We anticipate that all of the redesign position grading will be completed by
May 15, 2007. Staff will be placed in the appropriate grade with retroactive
salary adjustments as previously stated.
Oblation and World Hunger Grants
Grants from the Oblation and World Hunger Funds sent in November reflect
Community of Christ’s emphasis on peace and justice, which calls us to stand
with the victims of war and disaster by providing aid to victims of war in
Lebanon and Israel. Through Counterpart International’s programs in southern
Lebanon, $60,000 is focused on projects that will have immediate and sustainable
benefits. Oblation aid of $30,000 is supporting development of a mobile health
clinic, and $30,000 from World Hunger is supporting a livestock replacement
project. Through an American Jewish Joint Distribution Committee program in
northern Israel, $10,000 from the Oblation Fund is helping provide for the
“Towards a New Galilee” project’s post-traumatic support initiatives for
children and elderly people to help with recovery from the impact of the war.
