The last moves were completed on Wednesday. Many thanks to everyone involved!
Please place empty rental boxes in the Temple dock area and in the area next to
the Auditorium west dining room. The next stage of the process is to try to
fulfill the many furniture requests that have come in as a result of the move.
Your patience as we inventory, assess needs, locate furniture, and deliver
furniture is greatly appreciated. If you have furniture requests, please e-mail
IHQMove@CofChrist.org and refrain
from pulling furniture from the depot located in the Auditorium. If you are
experiencing technical difficulties, please contact the Help Desk (extension
1234, InfoSys@CofChrist.org).
Oddities Found in the Move
From Fiscal Services: a gross-looking turkey claw was found behind a
desk in a certain office in our area last week and was later claimed (with
enthusiasm) by Greg Booth. The remains of the rest of the turkey have not been
found. Hmmmmm!
Send other strange findings to
IHQMove@CofChrist.org.
Redesign Evaluation Process
With many teams now up and running, with the move almost complete, and as we
head into our first year of actually living in the new design, it is time for us
to engage in a thorough evaluation of the redesign process itself. In preparing
for this process, we are aware of four key principles:
- Every employee should have the opportunity to participate in the
evaluation and to receive and discuss the evaluation report once the data have
been compiled.
- Participation in the evaluation process should be anonymous if so desired.
- Conducting evaluations of this breadth and depth in a manner that informs
the entire organization in the most helpful way possible is a specialized
skill that often calls for professional expertise.
- Any outside professional invited to conduct the evaluation process should
work with a team of employees from a variety of places in IHQ who will help
shape the questions that are asked. (It has been suggested by some staff that
members of this team should include those who were not named as incumbents in
the redesign process and consequently had to interview for positions. This is
a helpful suggestion and will be honored.)
We are pleased to announce that Patricia Kane from Schuster Kane Alliance has
agreed to coordinate our evaluation process. An evaluation team of IHQ staff
will be named during the first two weeks of January who will work with Patricia
in shaping the questions asked. This team will be selected from the list of
people who have volunteered to serve on this project.
We're looking forward to the insights that will come from this process, and
thank everyone in advance for their participation.
Staff Recognition
The annual International Headquarters recognition event was held December 13.
Special thanks to Dirk Ellingson for his photographic talents, displayed below.
Holiday Hours
Community of Christ International Headquarters will have a modified schedule
from Saturday, December 23, to Monday, January 1, allowing our staff to worship
and spend time with their families during the Christmas holiday. Guided tours,
the museum, Children’s Peace Pavilion, and Temple bookstore will not be open
during this time. Regular hours will resume on Tuesday, January 2.
The Temple sanctuary will be open for the Prayer for Peace, held from 12:30
to 12:45 p.m. each day and open to the public. Everyone is invited to attend
this brief worship. The public is also invited to free organ recitals on
December 24 in the Temple sanctuary and December 31 in the Auditorium chamber at
3:00 p.m.
Field FTE List
A link to the complete list of field full-time equivalents (FTEs) will be
available from the NewsPEACE homepage on Wednesday, December 20. This will
compliment the current list of International Headquarters FTEs that is available
at the bottom of the navigation bar to the left of this page.
Reunion Resources
Thanks to a dedicated and committed group of people the reunion resources for
’07 are now on the Web. The resources can be accessed by going to
www.CofChrist.org/OnlineResources/Reunion2007/. The adult study text is
available at
http://heraldhouse.org/custom/cart/edit.asp?p=115335.
Christian Education in the Community of Christ
Community of Christ church school curriculum through April 2007 is available
through the Power & Light series. After the January–April 2007 trimester, other
Community of Christ resources will be available for purchase and use until the
material currently being developed for Christian education and disciple
formation is available. A team is currently creating a list of recommended
resources to use in this interim period. Recommendations will be posted online
and available by request through Herald House by March 1.
A Lifelong Discipleship Formation Development team, co-chaired by Apostle Ron
Harmon and Eastern Great Lakes USA Mission Center president Blake Smith, is
being created to develop the framework for lifelong discipleship formation in
the Community of Christ. This framework will benefit from a highly participative
review process by a diverse group of ministers.
Temple School courses will continue to provide educational opportunities for
deepening discipleship and preparing for ordination. To order Temple School
courses, Power & Light for January–April 2007, and future curriculum materials,
contact Herald House: 1-800-767-8181, (816) 521-3015,
sales@HeraldHouse.org, or

Book Steward Ministry: Connecting Members with Resources
Connecting people to resources that inspire and help them live out the
mission of the church is imperative. Book stewards have offered this ministry in
many congregations for decades and continue to do so today.
Book steward purchases on account will be available until December 22, 2006.
After that date, purchases by congregations and individuals will need to be
prepaid by cash, check, or credit card only.
Beginning in December, information for book stewards and others who promote
current resources in congregations is being published in the monthly 10-Minute
News Report (mailed to pastors, posted on the church Web site at
www.CofChrist.org/news/10min/,
and available by request via e-mail from
communicationservices@CofChrist.org). This newsletter will continue to
regularly include announcements about free and for-sale items such as books,
Herald articles, Web materials, videos, and more items so book stewards can help
people gain access to the resources that connect them with the church’s mission.
The ministry of book stewards is greatly appreciated. Their efforts are vital
in supporting the church as we focus on sharing the peace of Jesus Christ in our
congregations, communities, and the world.
