Christian Education Tips
- Remember that Christian education occurs in a variety of settings in
addition to Sunday morning: personal study, weekday (or night) study groups,
lunchtime study at the workplace, retreats, Internet, weekend classes, or
other times and places.
- Make a practice of checking this web site for information about new study
materials. This is one place where recommended resources will be listed.
- Review study texts before needed so good choices can be made and books
will be available when starting a new study. Before a class devotes study
time to a text, someone needs to read the text carefully for content and
theology.
- Involve all class members in selecting what they will study. Offer choices
with as much information as possible.
- Classes are encouraged to use prepared study materials because they are
usually more carefully planned than some that may be developed from week to
week. This also encourages students to prepare for the class time.
- Think in terms of short term studies (6 weeks to 6 months) rather than
continuing too long with one topic and one teacher. It is easier to get
teachers or class facilitators when they know when the class will end.
- Help develop teaching skills of both new and experienced teachers by
periodically having training sessions, passing on teaching tips and
information, and by using feedback from class members.
