Our Invitation to You…
The First Presidency is excited to offer a newly planned
Congregational LIFE Workshop (CLW) in 2008. The focus is “Reviving and
Equipping Faithful Communities.” As a prophetic people, we are
challenged to renew and expand our ministry. This happens best through
supportive, community-based learning experiences.
The primary mission and ministries of the church occur in our local
congregations. The CLW is intentionally planned to model congregational
life and to explore topics of interest in dealing with life in
congregations. Our “Living Room Groups” and “Formational Experiences”
are designed to allow participants to share, offer support, and learn
from and with one another. Spiritual discernment comes from communities
of friends who journey together toward the peace of Jesus Christ.
The Presidency encourages each congregation to send at least two
people to CLW. The more participants there are from the same
congregation or mission center the more broadly shared the educational
and practical experiences of the week will be.
We have opened the Ministerial Education and Discipleship Studies
(MEADS) certificate program to all CLW participants. Participants can
choose from two classes during the week and are encouraged to discover
the wonderful learning and growth that happens through the MEADS
curriculum. Several members of the World Church Leadership Council will
bring ministry through classes, fellowship, and worship. You do not want
to miss this chance to share together.
Because lifelong learning, continued disciple formation, and
priesthood development are central to continued growth and success, many
of the courses offered at this year’s CLW require students to read texts
and accomplish other listed assignments before class starts. When
enrolling for courses, participants are expected to purchase or acquire
copies of the assigned texts. Each participant is also expected to
obtain a copy of The Phoenix Affirmations: A New Vision for the
Future of Christianity by Eric Elnes (2006) ISBN 978-0787985783.
This resource will be used daily during the Living Room Group sessions.
