"Hawthorne Place"
The Hawthorne Place Apartments in Independence,
Missouri is the site for community
outreach and children's programs from the nearby Village Heights
congregation. President of Seventy John Wight tells of an
economically challenged area hosting nearly 2,000 children and
youth; a youth minister's dream to reach out; productive networking
with community service agencies; and a congregation putting forth
their time and money to forward their corner of Zionic realization.
Village Heights models a new ministry
to Hawthorne Place with the Gospel Wagon and Jesus And Me JAM club
for children. Growth and
renewal characterize the ministry. For the Hawthorne Place
residents, it's a sense of peace and joy, from the realization that
people care. For the Village Heights church members, it's a glimpse
of their missionary potential in sharing the peace of Jesus Christ
with others. (11:20)
