Dear Friends:

We are writing to inform you about the cancellation of the African American Ministries Annual Retreat scheduled for October 2 – 4, 2009.

In light of the financial sacrifices recently made by the world-wide Church, and also with sensitivity for the stress of these difficult economic times that may be negatively impacting many of our households, communities, cities and nation; the AAM Council after much reflection and sharing with others has made the decision to cancel the annual retreat scheduled for October 2 – 4, 2009 which was to be held at the Kirtland Temple and Spiritual Formation Center in Kirtland, Ohio.

This was a difficult decision for the council to reach for several reasons. Primary of which, includes our strong value of continuing to build and sustain strong relationships with each other and the commitment to also provide quality discipleship and priesthood development to enhance the ministry in congregations and communities where we live and serve.

We highly recommend and encourage you to attend these other Church events:

For 2009:

Peace Colloquy - October 23-25, 2009
The 2009 theme is: “Justice for Women, Dignity for All” with keynotes and workshops focusing on women’s issues as experienced all over the world.
This year’s 2009 International Peace Award Recipient is: Halima Bashir, activist for women and children of Darfur.

Online registration is now open.  For further information, please contact Jeanette Hicks, 816-833-1000 ext. 2224.
